I finally got to shoot in my adopted home town of Santa Barbara. The project was a mini-doc on this shop, but also on creativity, the arts, community, stewardship, etc. The piece is very ambitious intellectually and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
YES. For this shoot it was the Zeiss Master Primes. These are incredible lenses. I've only gotten to shoot with them a few times now. The schedule has never allowed for tests, but I'm very happy with the work that I've done with them. We also shot with the RED Epic for the first time on this shoot. The...
The first wall going up. Here are some photos from a short project that I worked on in Rosarito, Mexico. The purpose of the film was to document the efforts of a charity named Companies With A Mission or CWAM for short. Their mission is to partner with other companies and their employees to help people in the impoverished and low-income areas of northern Mexico. During this trip four houses were built and donated to people in this area.
The homes that are built are very humble, essentially a two room house the size of an American one car garage. However, this home...
Here's a make-up and wardrobe test we shot for a feature entitled, The Persecuted. Which will be shot later this year. Here Kevin Sorbo and Bruce Davison run through a short scene.
Here I am with the director and my gaffer. We shot at the same studio that has brought you such masterpieces as Mega Shark and Transmorphers. It was a lot of fun to shoot there.
Back on the RED package. Here the director, Daniel Lusko, checks out the frame.
I've said it before, the make-up people are always the cutest girls on set.
Bruce Davison is running through his lines while...
Michigan in autumn. It was beautiful. Here I am with the director lining up a shot for a quasi-narrative/documentary piece for the Potter's House school in Grand Rapids. The school is really wonderful and I learned a great deal about it during this shoot. For example, 100% of the kids that attend graduate and 93% of those go on to college. Amazing.
Here we are shooting one of the co-founders of the school.
Steadicam day. My A.C., Derek Street, operated the Steadicam on the last day. He did a really good job.
This looks like a band...
For this job we were shooting at Specialized headquarters in Morgan Hill, CA. There building is very interesting and inside their offices they built a fully function bike store. Here I am pictured setting a light while we shoot in that store. Kino Flo allowed us to used their new light called the Imara. It has smaller lights like the Diva-Lite, but with a clever set of mirrors which boost the output considerably.
We spent a week and a half in this same interview set-up. By the end, I was very ready to shoot product B-roll for a while.
We used the Kessler...

Last year we made a short film for St. Michael's Abbey. This year we made another one that included many interviews with their parishioners. The challenge of this shoot was continually finding interesting places to shoot interviews. THE ORIGINAL PROJECT CAN BE VIEWED HERE.
The priest being interviewed on the left is also a surfer. This didn't really converge with my mental picture of a priest, but here he is. A very interesting and inspiring individual.
Here are the set photos from a shoot for Priority Health. It was a simple concept and we executed it well. We also used great equipment like the Zeiss Master Primes. Beautiful image. THE COMPLETED PROJECT CAN BE VIEWED HERE.
The faithful G+E crew.
The shoot actually started on an interior shot, which I really liked. However, it ended up on the editing room floor.

Here is one of Specialized riders, Reba Rusch making it all look easy. For this shot we underslung a DSLR on a slider dolly. The camera passed over her during the shot.
On this day we were lucky because we drove the truck to the location instead of riding our bikes to it. The driver had to skirt a few boulders that day, however.
Kessler makes this great little slider rig that I have mounted to the tripod. It was perfect for this shoot as we were carrying most of our gear on our backs whiles riding mountain bikes into the location.
This...

This was a shoot for Specialized Bicycles. We scouted this town for some appropriate biking locations. We didn't end up shooting here, but we had a wonderful cafe con leche at a nearby cafe.
The camera in the middle is attached to the Mini Gyro stabilization mount, which is produced by Tyler Mounts. For this shoot, we were using a van as a shooting platform. The Mini Gyro dampens the movements of the vehicle you are shooting from.
Up in the mountains, we shot some time-lapse work amongst the windmills.
At the end of the shoot...

Here is the view of the runway a few hours before the show. This is the only shot I was able to get off as the set-up time was very, very hectic. This was a shoot documenting this Ugg fashion show. I didn't know that Ugg made more than boots. Well, they do. We used four 5D Mark IIs to cover this show. One was mounted to a special remote controlled car that ran on dolly tracks following along with the models. Altogether, this was a very interesting show.
