Recently, I was fortunate to work on a commercial short for a Fortune 500 company. We spotlighted one of their employees for a min-doc for internal use at the company. Our subject lived in Southern Michigan very close to the coast of Lake Michigan. We shot along the beach for some of the shoot. The lake is very much like the ocean. At sunset it was quite beautiful.
Here I am with the director Aaron B. Smith. We've known each other for a long time and we have an easy relationship on set. Much trust.
The subject of our film was a very active person,...
Chuck Colson had an interesting life, special counsel to President Nixon, incarcerated for his actions in the Watergate scandal, founder of Prison Fellowship, etc. We made a short film about his life, shot at the end of last year. Gorilla Pictures brought me along for this one and we had a lot of fun. Colson was gracious and very open about his thoughts and his choices. Sadly, he died this past April. I have no pictures from the shoot, so I thought I'd post the finished film.
I finally got to shoot in my adopted home town of Santa Barbara. The project was a mini-doc on this shop, but also on creativity, the arts, community, stewardship, etc. The piece is very ambitious intellectually and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
YES. For this shoot it was the Zeiss Master Primes. These are incredible lenses. I've only gotten to shoot with them a few times now. The schedule has never allowed for tests, but I'm very happy with the work that I've done with them. We also shot with the RED Epic for the first time on this shoot. The...
Here's a make-up and wardrobe test we shot for a feature entitled, The Persecuted. Which will be shot later this year. Here Kevin Sorbo and Bruce Davison run through a short scene.
Here I am with the director and my gaffer. We shot at the same studio that has brought you such masterpieces as Mega Shark and Transmorphers. It was a lot of fun to shoot there.
Back on the RED package. Here the director, Daniel Lusko, checks out the frame.
I've said it before, the make-up people are always the cutest girls on set.
Bruce Davison is running through his lines while...

Last year we made a short film for St. Michael's Abbey. This year we made another one that included many interviews with their parishioners. The challenge of this shoot was continually finding interesting places to shoot interviews. THE ORIGINAL PROJECT CAN BE VIEWED HERE.
The priest being interviewed on the left is also a surfer. This didn't really converge with my mental picture of a priest, but here he is. A very interesting and inspiring individual.
Here are the set photos from a shoot for Priority Health. It was a simple concept and we executed it well. We also used great equipment like the Zeiss Master Primes. Beautiful image. THE COMPLETED PROJECT CAN BE VIEWED HERE.
The faithful G+E crew.
The shoot actually started on an interior shot, which I really liked. However, it ended up on the editing room floor.
