I finally got to shoot in my adopted home town of Santa Barbara. The project was a mini-doc on this shop, but also on creativity, the arts, community, stewardship, etc. The piece is very ambitious intellectually and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
YES. For this shoot it was the Zeiss Master Primes. These are incredible lenses. I’ve only gotten to shoot with them a few times now. The schedule has never allowed for tests, but I’m very happy with the work that I’ve done with them. We also shot with the RED Epic for the first time on this shoot. The sparks looked awesome hanging in the air at 200 fps. The camera can be shot at 300 fps, but we never used it at that high of a rate.
My colleague and co-DP/Director/all-around bad ass filmmaker, Eric Machiela. The hand-held rig that we were able to improvise on the day was not very comfortable and incredibly front heavy. Eric manhandled it for many of the shots.
